The weather across Tampa Bay is looking absolutely beautiful this weekend. Light winds, calm seas, and a very low chance of rain are expected throughout much of the area. For the month of June, these conditions are a gift.

Typically, Florida anglers begin dealing with stronger afternoon thunderstorms and increasing rain chances this time of year. However, current conditions are creating excellent opportunities for anglers to get out on the water safely and comfortably.

Whether you’re planning a Tampa Bay fishing charter, taking the family to the sandbar, running offshore, or fishing your favorite grass flat, the weather forecast is about as favorable as it gets.

Tampa Bay Tide Report

This weekend we’re seeing what local anglers commonly refer to as “hill tides.”

The high tide is expected around 11:30 AM to noon in the Port Manatee area. Keep in mind that tide times will vary depending on your location within Tampa Bay.

If you’re fishing farther north toward downtown Tampa or Old Tampa Bay, expect tides to occur slightly later. If you’re fishing near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, Anna Maria Island, or the Gulf side, tides will generally occur a little earlier.

Understanding tidal movement is critical for successful Tampa Bay fishing. High tides allow snook and redfish to push deeper into mangrove shorelines, while falling tides often concentrate baitfish and gamefish along points, potholes, and creek mouths.

Redfish Fishing Report Tampa Bay

Redfish have been feeding aggressively throughout Tampa Bay.

Schools of redfish are being found along mangrove shorelines, oyster bars, and shallow grass flats. Most fish are targeting the massive amounts of bait currently present throughout the bay.

Live pilchards continue to be one of the top baits for redfish, but anglers are also finding success using threadfin herring, pinfish, cut bait, and artificial lures.

If you’re throwing artificials, paddle tails and shrimp imitations continue producing quality fish around grass edges and potholes.

The key right now is finding bait. Wherever the bait is concentrated, the redfish are usually close behind.

Tampa Bay Speckled Trout Report

The speckled trout bite has been one of the most consistent fisheries in Tampa Bay throughout the spring and early summer.

Large trout are being caught across the bay’s grass flats, especially during moving water periods.

Artificial lures continue to dominate the trout bite.

Interestingly, several local captains have been reporting excellent success using dead bait exclusively. This is a reminder that presentation often matters more than the specific bait itself.

Beach snook fishing has also become increasingly productive.

Large snook are cruising the beaches throughout the Tampa Bay region. Anglers walking the shoreline should keep their eyes open because these fish are often swimming only a few feet from shore.

One important tip: if a beach snook doesn’t eat within the first couple casts, move on. These fish usually make up their minds quickly.

Tampa Bay Live Bait Report

Baitfish activity is playing a major role in current fishing success.

The annual whitebait spawn is wrapping up across many Tampa Bay flats. During this period, anglers often notice larger pilchards gathering and spawning on the grass flats.

Soon, we’ll begin seeing an influx of smaller juvenile baitfish throughout the bay.

As this transition occurs, predator fish such as snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon will begin focusing heavily on these smaller baitfish.

This week, cast netting has been somewhat more challenging than normal due to spawning activity. Many anglers are having to make extra throws to fill their livewells.

• Nearshore structures

Live pinfish and live pilchards continue to be the most productive offerings.

Free-lining and knocker rigs are both producing quality fish.

The encouraging news is the number of keeper-sized gag grouper currently being caught. If these trends continue, anglers should have an excellent season once harvest regulations allow retention again.
