Tampa Bay Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Report (2026)

Tampa Bay Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Report (2026)

If you’re planning to go fishing in the Tampa Bay this Memorial Day weekend, you picked one of the best times of the year to hit the water. Spring fishing is transitioning into full-blown summer patterns, water temperatures are climbing fast, bait is everywhere, and the bite across the bay has been absolutely on fire. Whether you’re targeting snook, redfish, trout, tarpon, mangrove snapper, or even mackerel, there are plenty of opportunities to bend a rod this weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend Weather in Tampa Bay

The first thing every angler should pay attention to before heading out is the weather. Luckily, the weather forecast for the Tampa Bay area this Memorial Day weekend is looking excellent for boating and fishing. Light southeast winds are expected throughout the weekend, creating favorable conditions for both inshore and nearshore fishing.

That said, we are officially entering Florida’s summer weather pattern. Afternoon thunderstorms can develop quickly this time of year, even when rain chances appear low in the forecast. If you plan on fishing all day, especially around the beaches or open bay waters, make sure you keep an eye on radar conditions and have a safe plan to get off the water if storms develop.

Memorial Day weekend also means heavy boat traffic throughout Tampa Bay. Expect crowded boat ramps, busy sandbars, and increased boating activity around popular fishing areas like the Skyway Bridge, Egmont Key, Bunces Pass, and local beaches. Safe boating should be every captain’s number one priority this weekend.

Tampa Bay Tides This Weekend

One of the biggest questions anglers ask every week is: “What are the tides doing?”

This weekend, Tampa Bay will experience moderate tidal movement with high tides around 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday near the Port Manatee area. The high tides are projected to reach around 1.6 feet, which is decent but not extremely high for late spring and early summer standards.

Even though the water movement won’t be extremely strong, these tides still set up well for several species throughout the bay. Moderate current flow can actually help for species like tarpon, mangrove snapper, and grouper because it allows bait to stay concentrated around structure without being swept away too aggressively.

For inshore anglers targeting redfish, snook, and trout, focusing on moving water around mangroves, potholes, oyster bars, grass flats, and docks will still be key to finding feeding fish.

Tampa Bay Water Temperatures Are Heating Up

Water temperatures throughout Tampa Bay are now sitting around 81 to 83 degrees, signaling that summer fishing patterns are fully arriving.

As the water heats up, fish behavior changes significantly:

  • Snook become far more aggressive and begin pushing toward beaches, passes, bridges, and inlets.
  • Trout remain active early in the morning over healthy grass flats.
  • Redfish begin slowing slightly during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Tarpon migration ramps up heavily throughout the bay.
  • Mangrove snapper become more aggressive around structure.

The warm water also means baitfish activity is exploding right now.

Tampa Bay Redfish, Trout, and Snook Report

The inshore bite in Tampa Bay continues to be excellent heading into Memorial Day weekend. Redfish, trout, and snook are all actively feeding, especially during the early morning hours and around moving water.

Snook Fishing Report

Snook fishing in Tampa Bay is heating up fast. As water temperatures rise, snook are beginning their annual migration toward the beaches, passes, bridges, and coastal structures. While plenty of snook are still being caught deep inside the bay, beach fishing for snook is quickly becoming one of the hottest bites around.

If you’re fishing the beaches this weekend:

  • Use bucktail jigs
  • Free-line live pilchards
  • Fish around troughs and washouts
  • Target early mornings and sunset periods

One important tip: keep your eyes open while walking the beach. Many snook are cruising in extremely shallow water right along the shoreline.

Trout Fishing Report

The speckled trout bite remains very strong across Tampa Bay grass flats. Trout are aggressively feeding early in the mornings before the midday heat intensifies. The biggest key right now is matching the hatch.

Massive bait hatches are occurring throughout the bay, meaning many gamefish are focused on smaller bait presentations.

Best trout baits right now include:

  • Small live pilchards
  • Small white bait
  • Paddle tails
  • Soft plastics on light jig heads
  • Small topwater plugs during low light

Grass flats with good potholes, scattered sand patches, and moving water are producing the best trout action.

Redfish Fishing Report

The redfish bite is still solid, although it has slowed slightly compared to earlier spring patterns. Redfish are still being caught around mangroves, oyster bars, and shallow flats, especially during the lower light periods of the day.

Live bait remains king right now, especially smaller pilchards and cut bait presentations.

Tampa Bay Tarpon Fishing Report

Tarpon season is officially in full swing across Tampa Bay. The migration is happening right now, and anglers throughout the area are reporting outstanding numbers of fish.

The tarpon are currently being found:

  • Around the Skyway Bridge
  • Along major bridges throughout Tampa Bay
  • Near beaches and passes
  • Around deeper channel edges

Some captains are already reporting days with dozens of hookups. If you’re targeting tarpon this weekend, your best live baits include:

  • Threadfin herring
  • Large pilchards
  • Pass crabs
  • Pinfish

Early mornings and strong moving tide windows will give anglers the best opportunity at hooking a silver king.

Mangrove Snapper Fishing Report

Mangrove snapper are beginning their annual summer invasion throughout Tampa Bay, and the action is only getting better.

The key to successful snapper fishing right now is downsizing your bait.

Best snapper baits include:

  • Small pilchards
  • Small pinfish
  • Cut bait
  • Small threadfins

Chumming is extremely effective for mangrove snapper. Once you get them fired up behind the boat, the action can become nonstop.

Focus your efforts around:

  • Rock piles
  • Bridges
  • Docks
  • Artificial reefs
  • Structure with good current flow

Simple rigs like knocker rigs, Carolina rigs, jig heads, and small weighted hooks are all producing fish right now.

Mackerel Fishing Report

The Spanish mackerel bite has slowed down somewhat compared to previous weeks. Warmer water temperatures appear to have pushed many schools slightly outside the bay for the moment.

Interestingly, many anglers are reporting large numbers of jack crevalle mixed into the action right now.

As summer rains begin cooling water temperatures slightly, expect the mackerel bite to improve again throughout Tampa Bay beaches and shipping channels.

Final Tampa Bay Fishing Report

Overall, the fishing throughout Tampa Bay this Memorial Day weekend is excellent. Between snook, trout, tarpon, mangrove snapper, and redfish, anglers have plenty of opportunities to catch quality fish right now. The biggest factors for success this weekend will be:

  • Paying attention to weather changes
  • Fishing moving water
  • Matching smaller bait hatches
  • Boating safely during heavy holiday traffic

The summer fishing season is officially arriving in Tampa Bay, and if current conditions continue, the next few months should provide some incredible fishing opportunities throughout the region.

If you’re heading out this Memorial Day weekend, stay safe, respect other boaters, and enjoy some of the best fishing Tampa Bay has to offer.
