Tampa Bay Goliath Grouper Fishing Charters

Bigger rods, bigger reels, and bigger baits—our Goliath Grouper trips are an unforgettable challenge. These are not your typical fishing trips. Be prepared for an intense fight. Goliath Grouper are incredibly strong, and you’ll be fighting like you’ve never fought before to land one. These trips are not for the faint of heart. You’ll experience the raw power of these incredible fish firsthand. It’s a truly humbling experience that will test your strength and determination.

Everyone thinks they want to fight a Goliath Grouper until they hook into one. We recommend stretching before these trips, before going toe to toe with a giant. We’re not trying to scare you, but we want you to be prepared for the fight! It’s intimidating. It’s fun. It’s unforgettable.

Target Species

The main target on these trips are the almighty Goliath Grouper–the true king of the bay. They range anywhere from 30-80 lbs with true behemoths getting over 400 lbs. We’re fishing in 20′ of water on average with 400lb mono line and a 600lb wire leader.

Other Species
While we fish for goliath grouper, we’re also fishing for mangrove snapper, other grouper, spanish mackerel, and massive snook. This adds some more meat to the cooler, but it’s also a strategy in hooking into a Goliath—you’ve got to catch a few fish to get a Goliath’s attention. They’re curious creatures.

Live Bait Tactics
We always have some mackerel and jack in the freezer for the trip but if they’re running in the bay, we’ll catch some for bait and keep a few in the cooler to send you home with some meat as well.

Where We Fish

We’re targeting Goliath Grouper around structure in the bay that we know holds these giants. It’s year-round fishing for the species but the conditions have to be just right to up our chances of hooking into one. They’re picky eaters, preferring a slower tide to feed as they typically eat in the transition period between the tides changing.

We’ll hit a spot, do a couple of drops, and see how it goes. If we’re hooking into fish but not getting a response from the big boy, we’ll try another fish in another spot.

What's Included

It’s our goal to exceed your expectations. From the time you first contact us til the time we bid farewell, we’ve got everything taken care of. The boat is clean, the rods are rigged, and we’re ready to rip! The cooler is loaded with ice. Capt. Chris will be in touch with you leading up to the trip to dial in all of your details and create the perfect game plan.

During our trip, do not be afraid to get the captain’s attention. We’re here to help and want you to be fishing hard. If you don’t have a bait, let Capt. Chris know. Chances are he’s already in the livewell grabbing one and getting it rigged already. No hesitation. We want this to be an exciting and engaging experience the entire time we’re out.
